Volleyball Drops Two Matches; Christian Reaches Career Milestone

STAUNTON, Va. - The women's volleyball team hosted a USA South tri-match Saturday, taking on William Peace University and Greensboro College.

The Fighting Squirrels started out with a tough four-set loss (27-25, 17-25, 15-25, 12-25) against a William Peace squad that is 6-0 in conference action.

The Squirrels came out to an electric start after a clutch kill by Leah Sherrill to clinch the first set. Senior outside hitter Rachel Christian tallied 13 kills against the Pacers and a kill in the first set put Christian at the career milestone of 1,000 kills. Soleil Rios Rolon added a team-high 14 digs in a solid defensive effort. 

MBU fell in the next three sets after 14 kills by Pacers Junior Hannah Collier stopped the momentum of the Squirrels.

In the second match of the day, the Squirrels lost to Greensboro in three sets (22-25, 15-25, 15-25) Christian led the way with 13 kills followed by a strong defensive 14 digs from Rios Rolon.

Greensboro's Taylor Cotie had eight kills on a .538 kill percentage

The Fighting Squirrels are back in action as they head on the road where they will play Southern Virginia in Buena Vista, Va on Tuesday (Oct 11th) in conference action.
