
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Mary Baldwin dropped a pair of conference matches Saturday in a quad-match hosted by Pfeiffer, losing 3-0 to both Brevard and Pfeiffer.
The Fighting Squirrels lost to Brevard 25-20, 25-13, 25-21.
In the opening set, MBU trailed 16-12 boefre running off six straight points to take the lead. A kill by Sydney Clarke, an ace by Megan Andrews and two Brevard errors pulled MBU even at 16-16. A kill by Andrews gave the Squirrels the lead and a bad set by Brevard put MBU ahead 18-16. A kill by Clarke kept the Squirrels ahead by two, 19-17, before the Tornados closed the set with an 8-1 run.
Brevard dominated the second set before the Squirrels responded to challenge for the tird set.
MBU jumped out to a 5-1 lead, sparked by kills from Leah Sherrill, Andrews and Jaci McAlwee. A kill by Emily Penny had the Squirrels up 14-10 before Brevard took the lead, 15-14, with five straight points.
The teams traded points with a kill by Clarke putting MBU up by one 19-18. Brevard regained the lead, but a kill by Clarke knotted the score at 20-20. The score was tied at 21-21 when the Tornados scored the final four points to close out the match.
Clarke led MBU with 10 kills, Sherrill added 11 assists and Soleil Rios Rolon finished with 12 digs.
In the second match of the day, fast starts in each set led Pfeiffer to a 21-16, 21-16, 21-13 sweep.
Rachel Christian oaced MBU with eight kills. Penny conributed eight assists and Rolon added nine digs.
