STAUNTON, Va. -- The Mary Baldwin University men's and women's cross country teams are set to run in the USA South Championships, hosted by N.C. Wesleyan, on Saturday.
The women's race will start the day with an 11 am start on the 6K course, while the men will run an 8K beginning at 12 pm.
This marks the first time the men's team will be eligible to win the meet after competing as a club team a season ago. Last year, the women's team placed sixth out of 17 teams and saw Josephina Reeder claim all-conference honorable mention status with a top-30 finish.
In the preseason polls, the Fighting Squirrels were selected to finish seventh on the women's side and last on the mens side. Since then, MBU has held steady in the bi-weekly conference rankings.
Earlier this season, the teams competed in a preview of the course in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The women's team took third behind all five scoring runners placing in the top 30, including Brianna Parker who crossed the finish line in 12th place.
For any one interested in attending the USA South Championship meet, admission and parking are free. The course is located on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan College. The best places to park are near the tennis courts or at the library.
