Karin played tennis for Mary Baldwin for three years. Karin was a member of the 1988 team. That year the team defeated Washington and Lee by .5 points to win Mary Baldwin's only ODAC Championship. Karin was a member of the doubles team that was the ODAC Champion that year as well. Karin also was named the National Head Sports, Inc./ ITCA Arthur Ashe Jr. Sportsmanship Award Winner as a top 50 player in Division III, and she was the south regions representative for National Player of the Year.
Karin stayed active in tennis after graduation. She started level 5.0 and 5.5 USTA Tennis Leagues for advanced players in the Richmond area. She was part of the USTA Mid-Atlantic #2 ranked Women's Open Doubles Team in 2003. Karin captained the SunTrust/Crestar Bank tennis team from 1995 through 2001 and led them to three corporate league championships. Karin was part of a doubles team that won the Virginia Slims Legends National Grassroots Championship in 1995. She became the second elected female President of the Westwood Club in 2007-08, formerly the Officers Club of Virginia, Inc., a private tennis, dining, and swim club in Richmond, Virginia. Karin currently serves as the Program Leader and head coach of the Girls and Boys Varsity Tennis Teams at the Collegiate School in Richmond. The girls won their 6th State Championship in 2009. True to her Division III experience, Karin is best known for her role as coach and mentor to her young players. She works to improve their tennis, also takes an interest in their education and lives beyond the court. Karin is married to Gary Ometer and they reside in Richmond.
