
STAUNTON, Va. - Mary Baldwin faced Eastern Mennonite Friday afternoon and lost the first game 6-0 and tied the second 6-6.
In the first game, Mary Baldwin could not find their stride as they gave up six runs while the Royals' pitching kept the Squirrels to just two hits.
The second game was a thriller with MBU jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Olivia Gange signled and Leanna Rankin reached on an error. Gagne swiped home and Rankin scored on an RBI- double by Sam Grimsley for a 2-0 Squirrels lead. Hadley May followed with a two-run homer to make the score 4-0. The Royals went to the pen, but the Squirrels kept the line moving as Allison Crum, Caroline Whitfield, and Emily Hall each reached to load the bases. Gange and Ranking each drew a bases-loaded walk as the lead frew to 6-0.
The Royals responded with four runs in the second after taking advatange of a costly MBU error. The Suirrels had chances to extend their lead during the rest of the game, but the Royals got out of jams and tied the game with two runs in the top of the fifth.
MAry Baldwin had the go-ahead run thrown out at the pate for the third out of the bottom of the fifth and the game was called at that point due to darkness.
Mary Baldwin is back in action Tuesday (March 21) when the Squirrels host Bridgewater College at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
