Softball Drops Two To Bridgewater

STAUNTON, Va. - Mary Baldwin faced Bridgewater College Tuesday afternoon, losing the first game 7-2 and the second 8-3.

In the first game, Mary Baldwin struggled to drive in the runs as the Squirrels had seven hits compared to the Eagles' eight. The Squirrels were behind 3-0 before responding with a run of their own in the bottom of the second. Allison Crum and Paige Fix both singled and Crum scored on a single by Trinity Thomas to make it a 3-1 ballgame.

The Eagles' pitching stopped the momentum for the Squirrels as MBU would add just one more run. In the bottom of the fifth, Fix led off with a double and took third on a Thomas groundout. Leanna Rankin scored Fix with a single.

The second game started with a five-run inning from the Eagles in the second and two more in the third before the Squirrels put their first run on the board. Fix singled in the third for MBU and Olivia Gagne followed with a base hit. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Fix scored on a Thomas groundout. The Eagles scored again in the top of the sixth before the Squirrels responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Emily Hall and Hadley May each singled and Caroline Whitfield was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Allison Crum delivered an RBI-single and Reagan Frazier added a sacrifice fly for the Squirrels' final run.

For the Squirrels, went 3-for-5 on the day with a double and a run scored.

Mary Baldwin is back in action Saturday (March 25) when the Squirrels host Methodist University at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
