MBU Sprinters In Spotlight At Upcoming Conference Meet; SVU Is Pre-Meet Favorite

BREVARD, N.C. - Southern Virginia is the favorite in both the men's and women's field at this weekend's USA South Athletic Conference championship meet.

The spotlight will shine on the Mary Baldwin sprinters and jumpers in the men's meet.

Mary Baldwin has three of the top four times in the 200 meters.  Steven Santiago has the fastest time in the 200 meters with a 22.12 clocking. Shyheim Holmes is close behind in second with a 22.22 time and Christopher Kirksey is fourth at 22.26

Kirksey checks in at No. 2 in the 400 meters at 48.77 seconds with Holmes posting the fourth-fastest mark at 50.97.

In the 100, Satiago's time of 11.08 seconds ranks No. 2 while Kirksey's time of 11.23 is eighth best in the conference.

Kirksey and teammate Elijah Butler are top of the top jumpers in USA South. Kirksey leads the tripe jump hopefuls with a best effort of 13.43 meters while Butler ranks fourth at 12.80 meters. In the long jump, Kirksey ranks No. 2 at 6.49 meters while Butler is No. 8 at 6.11 meters.

For the women, Quierra Hawkins ranks among the conferenece's best in the springs. She ranks sixth in the 200 meters at 26.98 seconds and ninth in the 100 at 13.24 seconds.

Kayla Richardson has the top mark among the MBU throwers with a best of 10.56 meters in the shot put to tank fifth in the conference.

The conference meet will be held Thursday and Friday at Brevard College.
